Louis The Child + Icona Pop = Match Made in Heaven

written by Ariana Assaf

THEY’VE DONE IT!!!

Louis The Child has finally given me everything I’ve been wanting from them and more, made possible by a collaboration with none other than the exquisite Swedish duo Icona Pop. Maybe I’m a little over excited…but have you listened to this masterpiece? Real talk, I’ve been in danger of falling off the Louis The Child bandwagon after listening to set after familiar set this festival season; they haven’t got me going like this since opening with their Zella Day remix at Snowglobe in Lake Tahoe on New Year’s Eve. I know, we’re all supposed to be head over heels with “It’s Strange”, but that one didn’t attach itself to my soul quite like their version of “Compass”.

But unlike the eerily warped notes of “Compass” that tend to pull your heart in a melancholic direction, “Weekend” is the perfect marriage of dance music and pop that, if you’re anything like me, will have you dancing around in your underwear with the song on repeat. It’s as much a continuation of Louis The Child’s astounding success as it is a hint that Icona Pop will be delving even further into the realm of dance music (their top-notch live set at Ultra had me hoping for something just like this). All in all, “Weekend” stands as a welcomed reminder that neither of these dynamic duos will be slowing down any time soon. Now go treat weekdays like the weekend, and be sure to catch Icona Pop and Louis The Child on their respective tours. Dates below…
