Episode 8 of Pretty Lights Live at Northerly Island

Northerly Island, arguably one of Chicago’s best-kept secrets. The venue is an outdoor amphitheater with unparalleled views of the monstrous Chicago skyline. Throw in a killer sound system and many are left wondering what could be better. The answer is here, and the answer is Pretty Lights.

Pretty Lights, born Derek Vincent Smith, took the United States by storm during last year’s inaugural Episodic Festival, a mini tour making stops across the US, performing back-to-back nights. Earlier this year the producer announced the return and round two of these groundbreaking and unique events. Embarking back to the heart of Chicago, we are anticipating Episode 8 of Pretty Lights Live. Drawing attention from across the board, Pretty Lights took no mercy in hand, selecting a killer lineup. Bringing in the talents and tastes of multiple artists each night has fans ready for what’s to come. Each night Pretty Lights will perform a live set to close out the venue; though unbeknownst to some are the extremely artistic under cards that will be opening each evening.

Friday, August 18 2017, fans will enjoy music from Maddy O’Neal, The Soul Rebels, Big Wild, and Pretty Lights. Following, the second night, Saturday, August 19 2017, those in attendance will hear tunes from the likes of CloZee, Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts, The Floozies, and another live set from Pretty Lights.

Maddy O’Neal 

A young woman paving her way through the music industry by creating funky and matchless tunes. For those who jam hard to Griz, and Big Gigantic, Maddy O’Neal will fill your heart with joy. The use of various instruments within her music paired with a funky bass line leaves all who listen wanting more.

The Soul Rebels

A multifaceted machine made up of eight working parts based out of New Orleans. Those working parts include Derrick Moss on the bass drum, Lumar LeBlanc on the snare drum, Julian Gosin and Marcus Hubbard performing on the trumpets, Corey Peyton and Paul Robertson with the trombones, Erion Williams getting funky with the saxophone, and Manuel Perkins Jr. playing the sousaphone. Ranging from covers to original compositions, The Soul Rebels will be bringing the sound of sweet soul to the streets of Chicago.

 

Big Wild

Signed to the Foreign Family Collective, ODESZA’s label, will be making waves on the island during night one of the Episodic run. What people may not know about Big Wild is his live performances are not to be missed. Tuning into a tropical bass meets funky feel, Big Wild will have attendees moving and grooving.

 

CloZee

A French artist that is making her name known across the world. From performing multiple tours, Coachella, in India and across France, this woman is here to stay. Clozee has millions of plays via Spotify, and is a standout performer atop the stage. Creating original, organic sounds with a bohemian feel, Clozee fits right into the Pretty Lights puzzle.

 

Chali 2na & Krafty Kutz

Chali 2na is a hip-hop artist and rapper born in Chicago, you may know him from being part of groups like Jurassic 5 and Ozomatl. Quick with his words and witty in what he raps, Chali 2na is a can’t miss. A true lyricist, creating original verses overtop funky beats. Paired with Krafty Kutz, a DJ whose roots are embedded in the art of turntablism and mixing live. Krafty Kutz is a pioneer to the bass music movement and has worked with OWSLA, Mix Mag and more. Chali 2na and Krafty Kutz will perform alongside one another for a one-of-a-kind performance.

 

The Floozies

Electro-funk kings and overall fan favorites, The Floozies will be joining the lineup to enhance vibes and create an unforgettable jam session. The duo began crushing local house parties in their hometown to touring across the country and performing a multitude of festivals. Their synth-heavy funk sound will bring joy to those who listen and are a guaranteed must see.

 

Pretty Lights

Last, but the furthest from least, Pretty Lights, a man who emerged with a confidence and versatility to the music scene and never stopped. Derek Vincent Smith has always been one to step to the beat of a different drum, switching up sounds and strategies. The man has always been about his fans and the love of the music he makes, which is visible in any performance thus far. A truly groundbreaking, innovative and creative artist, Pretty Lights combines all genres, and aspects of music to create a rare, unprecedented performance.
