The line to enter the Belasco Theater wrapped around the building, but even in the below average temperatures that evening in Los Angeles, no one was letting it bother them. Through the doors and were thrust right into the action, attendees grabbed merch or their beverage of choice and filtered into the sea of people. Excited conversations about potential set times and the fact that the man of the hour, hardstyle legend Headhunterz, was going to be…right…THERE filled the sold out venue.
High energy openers whipped the crowd into a frenzy for hours, playing both hardstyle classics and future anthems tracks alike. Excited attendees gathered their crews and forged onto the dance floor, in search of the perfect location to welcome back the legendary headliner. At almost the strike of midnight, Headhunterz emerged. The massive LED screens were blinding and the speakers rattled every surface. In other words, it was perfect. Headhunterz blasted the crowd with tracks from his new album and serenaded the hardstyle faithful with classics like Dragonborn, during which he stood high above the pulsating crowd, fist pumping as the beat climaxed. It was clear as day there was no one happier to be there than Headhunterz himself, completely in his element and ready for anything that the music business throws his way.
Attendees exited the Belasco, some with looks of awe and others of exhaustion, spilling out into the bacon wrapped hot dog scented air. Some lucky fans remarked they couldn’t wait to see Headhunterz once again at EDC Las Vegas, mere months away.
There’s a saying that goes, “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If it doesn’t, it never was.” Headhunterz left the world of hardstyle briefly to pursue other genres, but in the end he realized it was this music that had his heart. That night at the Belasco, no one was thinking about how or why he returned to the scene – they were too busy smiling, singing and dancing. As Headhunterz’ new track confesses, this music is our destiny – and we cannot wait to see what else Willem has in store for us.
